Teacher Birthday

Previously, I may have mentioned I do not have any creativity…HOWEVER, it appears I may have a little, tiny bit.
When Cadence said to me, ‘Mom, I’m so sad, I didn’t give Mrs. W a b/day gift or card’, I replied w/’ohhh..when was her b/day?’.  She informs me, ‘Oh – it’s tomorrow.’
This was at 9 pm.  Grrrr…I didn’t know what to get her, I had used all the quick and easy stuff on teacher appreciation week.
We went to Walmart the next morning at 7 am, walking the craft aisles, easy gift aisles, etc looking for something quick and easy.
Then I saw the small wooden letters…since blue is her favorite, I quickly found the blue paint…and some cute ribbon…and next to the ribbon were adorable buttons..
I took it to work to get it done on my lunch.  First I spray painted the W blue.  Then I took an old pencil and put white polka-dots on it…I attached the cute ribbon after it was all dry – super glued the adorable daisy buttons and the end result:

Hope Chest

Somehow my mom came into possession of 2 hope chests. One given to her by a friend of the family & the other we're not sure of.
She gave me the latter.

It was oak & the top was in bad shape.

I tried to decided if i wanted to sand it, fix the top & re-stain...or do what drives Dennis crazy & paint it.

Painting won.

I primed it, painted it white & then smoked it w/Ralph Lauren faux aging glaze in a smoke color.

I then went to Walmart, bought 2 yds of clearanced fabric w/a fringe & quilt stuffing. Came home, laid the fabric over the top, folded the sides under (to hide the edging, which would have had to be sewn otherwise - YUCK!) stapled the fabric into place, put the stuffing in & voila - i'm done!

yay me! :)
til next time...

And came up w/this!!

I know there are a couple duplicated rules..i'm going to fix those soon...but for now - i'm just diggin the finished or almost finished project!!

Weekend in Review…

It was a really nice weekend. I didn't really accomplish much around the house - but I had a great weekend, so I think that is more important :)

Friday we didn't really do anything. Dennis got home from school early, we went to bed early & that was about it.

Saturday morning we got up & cleaned, dropped Tiff's b/day gift off to her, ran to the store, came home, cleaned some more, I went & picked up Ahrianna, the girls played, Selena & Nathan came over. The 3 kids played t-ball w/Dennis, while Selena & I ran to the store.
We brought home pizza & cake & ate. Took Ahrianna home around 11:15 - I didn't get back home til after 12!

Today we worked on different projects around the house…smoking the bookcase & the hopechest. Sanding the walls…dennis did yard work.
FYI - smoking furniture doesn't mean just a quick coat of the "smoke"…you have to paint it first & then apply the smoke…
Ugh…so each piece of furniture is taking like 2 or 3 coats…hopefully I'll be able to start the faux finish tomorrow. It's annoying seeing a bunch of different projects going on throughout the living room!
No big plans for the week. Trying to finish up my little projects…Dennis has exams tomorrow & Tuesday. Then he's going to work on sanding the walls during the evening. Who knows - maybe we'll be ready to paint next weekend!! OR we'll pull the strips from the bathrooms & bedrooms…ugh…it's never ending!

Til tomorrow...
