OWE Festival

When we lived in our old house, it wasn't in the best neighborhood, however, it was on the outskirts of the Historic Old West End.  The houses back there are BEAUTIFUL!

Every evening we would ride our bikes through the OWE looking at all the houses.  I just loved riding back there.

The first weekend of June is the annual festival.  We return every year to partake in the fun and enjoy the beautiful surroundings.
If you have a historic neighborhood in your area, my suggestion would be to walk through and enjoy it's beauty and history.  I love to imagine what these houses were once part of and the families that lived there.  They are all historic mansions and thanks to a great neighborhood group and residents, they are being restored to their original beauty...

Once of the best things about the festival is the King Wamba Parade.  It's so much fun!  Miserable City put together a great video of the parade here.  It's a bit long - but believe me, worth the watch!

One of the highlights of the parade was the Detroit Party Marching Band.  They are so freaking cool!
I wish I could show you the video from after the parade, when they were just chillin in one of the yards and busted out playing...but I can't figure out how to save it to my computer to share it here..so here is one from You Tube..

These houses leave me in awe..

The girls enjoyed walking around looking at the dozens of yard sales...Both slept really well that nite!

I hope that your summer is off to a great start as well!!

Dennis Visit

Dennis has worked at UPS for almost 10 yrs…he recently decided to get his CDL A.  After graduating from the driving school and becoming licensed, he was hired for an OTR truck driving company.  He is in Columbus for 3 wks for their orientation and training.
We decided to go down to visit for the weekend.  Luckily, we chose a weekend full of free activites!
I had a giftcard for Applebee’s, so after checking into the hotel, we headed over for lunch.

On the way there, we saw a free Church event, so as soon as we were done eating, we headed over for play time.

I had read about a hot-air balloon festival about 25 mins from the hotel, so that was our next stop.
How awesome is this?  Also, a free event – it included bouncy houses and free art stuff.

On the way back to the room, we grabbed some pizza and treats.  The girls were pretty worn out from all the activities and crashed shortly after they ate!
It was great to see Dennis, we miss him so much.  Can’t wait til he’s able to come home!

Heatwave

I h.a.t.e hot weather. Like, HATE it. Actually, I take that back – HATE is not strong enough. I’m not sure what’s stronger than hate – but whatever it is – that’s how I feel about hot weather.

Especially when it’s humid to boot. BLAH!!!! I get migraines and I get cranky crankier.

This past Monday – was one of those hot days that makes me want to vomit. But Saturday – was not so bad…

We took the girls to my mom & Greg’s & they went swimming…I’m dealing with an infection/ear/sinus thing – so there was no way I was getting in the waters & possibly getting water in my ears!

This weekend it’s forecasted to be MUCH cooler – so thankful for that. I hope you’re staying cool in your part of the world…

Laughter is an instant vacation!

Though it’s summer, which means summer VACATION – for Cadence, that is. It’s been anything but.
She has 4 hours of practice a week and fundraising on the weekends. She’s a trooper and rarely complains.
At least one day of our weekend is usually spent fundraising…either canning or car washing. The girls work their butts off to make money for their accounts and occasionally have fun doing it.

Meanwhile, on the days when it’s not boiling hot outside and there isn’t a fundraiser happening, the girls love to run around barefoot in our soft green grass. Although with scorching heat and sun as of late, our grass is more like a crunchy brown.

Bryleigh’s favorite game is tag! She even cons Cadence’s friends into playing with her.

This weekend we are going to the funeral of a family friend. She was a funny woman that I have many memories of.

Some time Saturday there is canning at the gas station and of course my volunteer day at the 577 Foundation.
The temperature isn’t supposed to be under 90 all weekend, so unless we are one of the above events, we’ll be in the house trying not to move!

And just because he's so scrumptious..a picture of Aiden...

I hope your part of the map is cooler than ours!!
